Educational Game “Syllable to Syllable”

The educational game “Syllable to Syllable” (ages 4-8) is a classic picture puzzle that supports reading skills through syllabic analysis and synthesis. Depending on the method used, syllabication is one of the stages in learning to read. Children progress from recognizing syllables to combining them into words. Playing with colorful tokens engages the senses of sight, hearing, and touch, allowing children to better tackle the new challenge of learning to read.

Development of vocabulary and language imagination. Playing with syllables facilitates learning to read, as the child first recognizes parts of the word (syllables) and then connects them with other elements, ultimately forming them into a word. It's a bit like building a house from a few larger parts instead of dozens of small ones – it’s easier. Children as young as preschool age can be encouraged to play with syllables. With this game, learning to read becomes much simpler.

Anna Jankowska, educator and author of the blogs “Only for Moms” and “Active Reading.” The game “Syllable to Syllable” contains a rich vocabulary material. In the simplest version of the game, the child names the illustrations, divides the word into syllables, and then assembles the syllables into a word. It’s worth starting the game with simple words that do not contain digraphs, starting with an open syllable, e.g.,: ry-ba, lo-dy, ze-gar. In a more challenging version, the child composes words without illustrations but can use hints like the background color. Advanced players can use all the tokens and create words that their imagination suggests. The set includes 32 blue tokens for forming 2-syllable words, 48 orange tokens for 3-syllable words, 64 red tokens for 4-syllable words, and instructions with 4 game variants.

Colorful, contrasting illustrations by Magdalena Popovics facilitate the learning of reading, and playing with the puzzle develops vocabulary, visual perception, and reinforces the reading direction from left to right. The tokens are made of thick cardboard, ensuring safe play and durability even during the most exciting games.

Development of reading skills, speech development, concentration, and fine motor skills.
